A skin tag is a small, soft, flesh-colored benign skin growth, often on a stalk. Skin tags are probably the single most common bump on adult skin. Skin tags are harmless but can be an annoying skin problem. Skin tags tend to occur on the eyelids, neck, armpits, groin folds, and under breasts. In our clinic we remove skin tags using short wave diathermy.

There are several methods that reduce or remove unwanted hair such as laser and IPL. However, electrolysis is the only form of hair removal that is classified as permanent by FDA (United States Food and Drug Administration).

What is electrolysis

There are several types of electrolysis, Thermolysis, Galvanic and Blend. At Lidia Nova we use the thermolysis method also known as shortwave diathermy; this modality uses high frequency radio energy to destroy the hair follicle and prevent hair regrowth.

Thermolysis Is the most used method because it is fast and effective. The process of thermolysis involves the applying an alternating current to the probe at the base of the hair effectively destroying the parts of the hair follicle with each treatment.

Suitability for Electrolysis

Electrolysis works on all types of hair; most skin types are suitable for electrolysis.

Areas that can be treated with electrolysis

  • include lips, chin, cheek, eyebrow, ear, nose, shoulder, armpit, chest, breast, back, stomach, leg, feet and hand.
  • Electrolysis can also remove ingrown hairs, skin tags, milia (whiteheads) and broken capillaries.
  • It is important to remember that whilst electrolysis can treat many areas it is a slower process and may not be suitable for larger areas which will be discussed during your consultation. Goals and expectation of treatments will be discussed at consultation prior to commencing your electrolysis treatment.

Electrolysis Procedure

A consultation prior to commencing your treatment, goals and expectation of treatments will be discussed at consultation prior to commencing your electrolysis treatment. During consultation you will be also asked about your medical history, indication and suitability for electrolysis.

The procedure involves preparing the skin by cleaning the skin with an a alcohol  wipe, the insertion of a fine needle  probe alongside the hair. A small electrical current is applied to cauterize the lower portion of the follicle. The hair is then removed

  • A single use needle needle is placed in the probe holder.
  •  The treatment the area by cleansing the area with an alcohol swab.
  •  Your electrologist will use extra lighting and some sort of magnification aid during the treatment.
  • The needle is inserted in each individual hair using the hand held probe.
  • One hair usually takes only a few seconds to remove.
  • The sensation varies between individuals to a great degree. Some feel it as a mild heat, others feel it is very sharp and strong pain.
  • Once you have completed your session your skin is wiped with an antiseptic wipe  and an antiseptic soothing cream is applied.
  • Each session is a minimum of 10 minutes.

If you are worried about pain or discomfort during sessions, we can talk you through examples of how other clients have managed this. Your local pharmacy may have numbing creams or over the counter pain relief that may be helpful. They will be able to guide you on this.

  • Overall, it is important that your skin is professionally clean, hydrated, moisturised and free of infection.
  • If you are currently tweezing (plucking), waxing or threading the hair that you would like to treat Do not remove the hair
  • Shave, trim or cut the hair instead.

Post care

For 24 to 48 hrs after each treatment:

  • Do not touch the area with your hands or fingers.
  • Keep the area clean and clear. Do not apply make-up, sunscreen, moisturiser or any products other than those recommended by your electrologist for at least 24hrs, preferably 48hrs.
  • Avoid heavy exercise and any activities which may make you hot and/or perspire.
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure.
  • Apply a mild antiseptic or aloe vera once or twice per day with a cotton tip.

Side effects

The most common side effects after an electrolysis session are

  • tenderness,
  • redness
  • some swelling.

Follow up

You will need around eight to twelve electrolysis sessions to permanently remove your hair. This may seem like a lot of sessions but remember that once it is done, that hair is gone forever! The thicker and denser the hair in an area, the more sessions you will need to remove.

We recommend the first three sessions to be 2 weeks apart, after that three weeks apart with a gradual decline of hair growth sessions will become further apart resulting in absence or reduce hair in the area being treated.

Initial consultation

Every Pure Smile Cosmetic whitening treatment starts with a consultation. Our experienced teeth whitening professional will discuss any queries you might have about the whitening process before your treatment. During this consultation we assess your initial shade and note your lifestyle habits so your treatment can be tailored to your needs.

What does the process involve?

Teeth are gently cleaned, and gums are protected with our Vitamin E and Aloe Vera formula, whitening gel is applied to teeth ensuring both bottom and top teeth are evenly covered. Pure Smile technicians undergo extensive training to tailor the gel application person to person.

Our LED light activates the gel to break down stain particles and whiten enamel. The gel will be reapplied every 15 or 20 minutes for the duration of the treatment time. The actual treatment will take between 45- 60 minutes depending on the selected whitening package, but we recommend allocating additional 15 minutes of your time for your complimentary full consultation and after care advice.

After Care & Take-Home Products

Following the procedure, we recommend you do not consume any staining drinks or staining food for at least 24 hours and refrain from smoking as it would have a negative effect on your results. Food and Drinks to Have or Avoid

While a tooth whitening procedure does not mean making a drastic change to your diet, sticking to The White Diet can help protect your teeth from getting that yellow tint again. This is especially important in the first 48 hours following your procedure as the pores within the enamel are still open, making them highly susceptible to stains. White wine is okay but red wine is not.

Do’s:

  • Using a straw as much as possible. Expect to catch some stares when you’re doing this with a cup of tea, but this will minimise the contact between the liquid and your teeth and minimise staining.
  • Taking over-the-counter pain relievers. If you experience any pain or sensitivity after your session, you can take your everyday paracetamol or any similar medication for relief. You can also ask your dentist for prescription medicine if you prefer.
  • Choosing smudge-proof lipstick or lip gloss. Keep lip makeup from getting on your teeth, especially if you are using them on a regular basis. They can actually leave a permanent stain on the enamel if you aren’t careful.
  • Using maintenance products. Strengthen your tooth enamel and seal your whitening results with an enamel booster. Get touch-ups on the go with a teeth whitening pen. Check out our wide array of products to see what can help.
  • Rinsing your mouth after each meal. To ensure that you don’t leave food and drinks in your mouth for too long, swish some water in your mouth right after eating. You can also alternate between sips or rinses of water in between.
  • Flossing regularly. Remove any harmful build-up that could make your teeth yellow. Flossing is also good oral hygiene that can keep your teeth white for a longer time. Don’t overdo it though as you might end up doing harm to your gums.

Don’ts:

  • Smoking heavily and drinking alcohol frequently. These can reverse the effects of teeth whitening. Many alcoholic beverages, such as wine, contain tannins that can lead to yellow teeth. The same goes for nicotine in tobacco. If you can’t quit entirely, at least lessen the frequency and do them in moderation.
  • Eating and drinking anything acidic. Food and drinks that are high in acid content can open up the pores of the tooth enamel. This will, in turn, allow stains to penetrate your teeth more easily.
  • Consuming extremely hot or cold liquids. These are dangerous to your now white smile as they can change the temperature of your teeth. Temperature changes can cause teeth to expand and contract, allowing stains to penetrate them.
  • Using a home whitening kit. Wait for a month or two before you decide to do so. This is because it may over-whiten and weaken your teeth.
  • Going back to your old toothpaste. Make the switch to whitening toothpaste. Better yet, give our teeth whitening foam a try. Not only can it penetrate enamel, but it can also dissolve particles and oxidise stains before they have a chance to discolour your teeth again.
  • Cutting back on the brushing. Some people assume that getting a teeth whitening procedure means that it would be okay to brush only once a day. They are highly mistaken as proper oral hygiene can extend the life of your dental procedure and keep your mouth as healthy as possible.

Collagen Rejuvenation and Skin Tightening treatment

PDO Mono Thread treatment is designed to tighten and thicken the skin. Mono Threads differ from thread lifts which use long barbed threads to lift tissues, however they can still provide an improvement of fine lines and wrinkles by gradually stimulating natural collagen production.

MORE INFORMATION

PDO Mono Threads is made from a material called Polydioxanone which is an absorbable single PDO filament that are smooth and without barbs.

PDO Mono Threads are inserted int the skin with a needle, after the threads are inserted into the skin, the threads activate collagen synthesis to gradually tighten and rejuvenate the skin for 6 to 12 months after your procedure. Whilst Mono threads tighten the skin it is important to note that they do not lift the skin, mono threads assist with adding volume to skin by its dual action of tightening and activation of the collagen within the skin. The threads are absorbed by the body and are replaced by increased collagen strands that become the natural support structure of the face or any other treatment area. Mono threads are minimally invasive and do not require an incision.

What areas can PDO Threads be used to treat?

The threads can be used to treat the following areas:

  •         Upper and lower cheeks
  •         Forehead and brows
  •         Neck and jawline
  •         Nose to mouth lines
  •         Marionette lines
  •         Arms
  •         Buttocks
  •         Abdomen

Suitability

Anyone. It can be done as a treatment for a suitably volumised patient who needs tightening or or skin improvement, or as a preventive procedure to prevent the face from sagging

How Long does the treatment last?

Results may be seen in 6 weeks and will continue to improve over 2 to 6 months. While the threads slowly dissolve, their effects may last up to 12 months.

Treatment time

This will depend on the number of threads.

Typically a full face of threads requires about 30-45 min

What happens during a PDO Thread Treatment?

Topical anaesthetic is applied to the treatment area. The PDO Threads are inserted using a micro-needle or a cannula. There is no incision and subsequently, no stitches required.

Treatments sessions typically take between 30 to 60 minutes. The procedure must also be provided by a medical professional who has been fully trained.

Down time

Swelling for 48 hours

Bruising if it occurs, not in everyone- 7 days

How do they differ from barbed threads?

PDO threads differ from thread lifts, which use long barbed threads to lift tissues. Instead, mono threads provide an improvement of fine lines and wrinkles by gradually stimulating natural collagen production.

There are two different types of Threads:

  1. Mono Threads. Mono Threads are a type of single PDO filament which are smooth and made without barbs. They are inserted into the skin in a mesh-like pattern, producing a tightening effect. While Mono Threads tighten the skin, they provide no lifting effect.
  2. Double Screw Threads. Screw Threads feature a double thread screw, consisting of 1-2 intertwined threads, which provide volume to the area being treated.

The V2 Skin Booster treatment has a wide range of skincare benefits. The results are visibly brighter, smoother, plumper, and softer looking skin. After the first treatment session your skin will appear less creased, more hydrated, and supple.

How is it performed

The treatment uses needle injections to deliver a serum into the sub-dermal layer of the skin, in a fast and even manner to coat the layer of the skin. This allows for fast even coating of the skin with the micro- filler skin booster nutrients.

Pre Treatment Advice

Please advise your cosmetic practitioner prior to treatment if you have suffered in the past with cold sores on the skin or lips. This viral infection may be re-activated by some injectable treatments. You are advised to take an anti-viral medication such as Zovirax on the day of your treatment and for several days after your treatment (available for purchase from the clinic prior to your treatment) or L-lysine (available from the chemist or health store) for 2-3 days prior to and a week after your treatment. You will feel raised ‘bumps’ and raised ‘threads’ on the skin in some areas that have been treated. It is advisable to massage the areas gently with a greasy moisturiser or arnica cream 2-3 x daily for 5-7 days.

During the first 24–48 hours after treatment you will experience redness, swelling and tenderness in the treated areas. These responses are normal and resolve quickly and spontaneously over the next 2-4 days.

Post Treatment Care

You can apply light water-based or mineral makeup where necessary. Drink plenty of cold water for 48 hours after the procedure. Bruising at the site of injection is also common and clears completely in 1-10 days. Swelling and bruising can give the appearance of ‘unevenness’ in the area treated. This will settle once the swelling and bruising has gone. Please contact the clinic for advice if there is any ‘unevenness’ present after 14 days.

After your hydrating skin booster treatment, you should:

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, hot drinks and spicy food for 24 hours, as these may exacerbate bruising and swelling.
  • Avoid medications such as aspirin or nurofen for 1-2 weeks as they are blood thinning agents and may exacerbate bruising (if these medications have been advised by your GP please check with your GP before stopping them)
  • Avoid supplements such as multivitamins, fish oils, glucosamine and Vitamin B or Vitamin E, which are blood thinning agents and may exacerbate bruising for 1-2 weeks (if these supplements have been advised by your GP please check with your GP before stopping them) • Avoid exercise/exertion for 24 hours
  • Avoid excess sun exposure or solarium use for 24 hours
  • Apply ice frequently as required to the area injected for up to 6 hours after the treatment. This will prevent or help to alleviate any bruising. It will also help to reduce any swelling. You can use Arnica cream and arnica. NOTE: bruises can last 1-10 days. They are TEMPORARY and will completely disappear over time with no effect on your treatment. Once bruising has formed (within the first 48 hours) it is better to apply warmth to the area to encourage the body’s natural reabsorption of the bruise from the skin.

You will feel raised ‘bumps’ and raised ‘threads’ on the skin in some areas that have been treated. It is advisable to massage the areas gently with a greasy moisturiser or arnica cream 2-3 x daily for 5-7 days.

This will ensure that the booster is spread across the deep layer of the skin to create a sheet of product which will attract water to it and hydrate the deep layer of the skin. If you suffer any allergic responses, prolonged generalised symptoms or any lumps/unevenness persists after 14 days, please contact your cosmetic practitioner for advice on 95594234

What are Dermal fillers Injections

Understanding the basics of volume loss, of the face dermal filler injections may be used may also be used to restore and enhance the youthful curves of the face by adding volume to cheeks and lips and defining the natural contours of the jaw, chin and other areas. Dermal fillers can be used also to smooth out wrinkles, deep folds and improve the appearance of scars Dermal fillers are made up of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid that closely resembles a naturally occurring material in the body that also hydrates skin.

Facial Ageing

Is multifactorial, wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process. As people get older, their skin gets thinner, drier, and less elastic, and less able to protect itself from damage. This leads to wrinkles, creases, and lines on the skin. Facial Ageing is also due to the loss of fat pads and bone density loss

Cause of volume loss and loss of facial contours

  • Fat pads support the face, as we age fat pads in the face are reduced. The loss of fat pats in the face results in the slow deflation of the cheek lips lower face, becomes saggier and the lips become thinner
  • Bones are the support structure of the skin as, bone density decreases as part of ageing causing the bony skeleton to change leading to deeper eye sockets, flatter cheeks, a less defined jaw and the chin slowly recedes

How it works

Dermal fillers are made up of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) that closely resembles a naturally occurring substance within the skin. Hyaluronic Acid stabilises the skin structure and attracts and binds water to improve hydration and elasticity of the skin and in the body. Dermal fillers come in different thickness and can last between six to 12 months.

Common areas that can be treated with dermal fillers include:

  • Lips
  • Cheeks
  • Jowls
  • Jawline
  • Tear troughs
  • Neck
  • Décolletage
  • Hands

Treatment Preparation

Avoid blood-thinning and anti-inflammatory medication (e.g. aspirin ibuprofen, fish oil, and St John’s wort) one week prior to your dermal filler appointment.

Advise your clinician:

  • Allergies that you have.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Had dental or facial surgery in the last six weeks or are scheduled for surgery in the next 4 weeks
  • Had recent minor dental
  • Are taking blood thinners
  • Using ibuprofen, Aspirin
  • Have autoimmune condition
  • Are prone to cold sores.
  • Have a long – haul booked within the next two weeks

Results

Results of Dermal fillers are instant, so you can see a visible result immediately after injection. It takes up to 4 weeks for the filler to fully integrate into the tissue and some fillers are more cohesive than others.

Most people choose to receive a repeat treatment within 6 to 18 months depending on what type of filler is used and where they are injected. Top ups might be needed before that for some clients who need that extra volume. Without treatment the correction gradually fades, and the skin will gradually return to its original appearance

What to expect

Prior to your first treatment you will have a consult with our doctor to assess whether you are a suitable candidate for dermal fillers and discuss any concerns or questions you may have in relation to your dermal filler treatment. You will also be asked to complete and sign a consent form.

The procedure involves the area to be prepared with a clinical antiseptic and a numbing cream will be applied to the selected area. The prescribed product will be injected into the prepared selected area with a fine needle or cannula. The injections may sting for a few seconds and feel tender.

After the procedure you may experience:

  • Localised pain, mild to moderate, usually resolved in two to five days improving with time
  • Tenderness to touch, which is usually resolved in two to five days improving with time
  • Redness in the treatment area which is usually resolved within 24 hours
  • Swelling in the treatment area which is usually resolved within three to seven days
  • Bruising, which is usually resolved in seven to ten days
  • Localised pain, mild to moderate, usually resolved in two to five days improving with time

Side effects and complications

Early complications include allergies, localised pain, bruising redness and swelling.

Delayed and more serious complications, although rare, include migration of the product, lumps, blanching, visual disturbances, and vascular occlusion leading to blindness.

Your safety and wellbeing is important to us if you experience any of the delayed symptoms or if you have any concerns you need to contact the clinic immediately

Causes of wrinkles

  • The first wrinkles to appear on a person’s face tend to occur as a result of facial expressions.
  • As people get older, their skin gets thinner, drier, and less elastic, and less able to protect itself from damage.
  • The formation of wrinkles is influenced by Sun damage, smoking, dehydration some medications, and environmental and genetic factors affect when and where people will develop wrinkles
  • UV light breaks down the collagen and elastin fibers in the skin. Elastin fibers form the supportive structure form the skin’s connective tissue which are located beneath the surface of the skin Breaking down this layer causes the skin to become weaker and less flexible. The skin starts to droop, and wrinkles appear.

Types of wrinkles

  • Dynamic Wrinkles – Those lines that result from repeated facial movements (such as smiling) that form creases in the skin are treated with anti-wrinkle injections
  • Static wrinkle – The lines that occur from your skin losing elasticity and collagen and that eventually sag may be treated with dermal fillers

How does it work

Dynamic wrinkles are treated with anti-wrinkle injections which contain botulinum toxin. The botulinum toxins block chemical signals that the brain sends to the muscle therefore relaxing and weakening the muscles that are responsible for frowning, wrinkling, and squinting and movement.

Skin Needling also referred to collagen induction therapy (CIT) is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment. It is an advanced skin perfecting treatment that combines micro needling with Mesotherapy (an introduction of various vitamins and complex ingredients which are injected to the dermis layer of skin). This treatment is also known as collagen induction therapy as it delivers and restores collagen and elastin to the skin through a natural healing process. Skin needling can be performed on most areas of the face and body. Areas included face, neck décolletage, hands, and other areas of concern with scars and stretchmarks.

How does skin needling work?

Ultra-fine, medical grade needles are passed vertically across the top layer of the skin skin creating multiple skin punctures that triggers a wound healing response to stimulate new collagen and elastin production.

Once initiated, new collagen production can continue for up to 12 months to 2 years, resulting in an improvement in skin firmness and texture and a softening and lifting of the skin.

Benefits

  • Improve skin texture
  • Smooth wrinkles + fine lines
  • Reduces the appearance of pores
  • Increases product absorption
  • Regulation of pigmentation,
  • Reduces the appearance of rosacea
  • Softens scars.
  • Improves stretch marks
  • Stimulates hair growth

Preparation for skin needling

Prime your skin two weeks prior with vitamin Even skin tone serums Vit A, vitamin C

  • Avoid tanning and prolonged sun exposure for two weeks prior
  • Cease blood thinners, anti-inflammatory medications, omega-oils, multivitamins, vitamin B, vitamin E and glucosamine for 2-3 days prior to treatment (or as directed by your physician) in order to minimise the risk of bruising
  • Men are to be clean shaven prior to treatment

Treatment Process

Prior to your treatment, your clinician will consult with you to assess your suitability for skin needling and discuss goals of treatment as well as any concerns or questions you may have.

A numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area to minimise discomfort throughout the treatment.

The clinician will use a skin needling pen with ultra-fine, medical grade needles which are passed vertically across the top layer of the skin. This will create multiple skin punctures that will trigger a wound healing response to stimulate new collagen and elastin production.

After the treatment, you can expect redness, swelling, sensitivity, tenderness which is usually resolved within 24 hours. A light graze consisting of tiny crusted areas that feel rough and look tanned may occur. Skin may feel tight and dry. Varying amounts of flaking/peeling may occur as healing progresses.

What are the potential side effects/complications of skin needling?

You may experience various degrees of redness, swelling, bruising, crusting, flaking, weeping, and oozing during recovery. Depending upon the depth of your treatment, some downtime may need to be allocated away from social and work commitments.

As with any treatment that creates incisions in the skin infection, pigment changes and scarring are remote risks.

Contraindications

Anyone

  • Has been on Roaccutane in the last 6 months
  • Has acne, open wounds, infections, psoriasis or dermatitis or permanent fillers in the area to be treated,
  • With uncontrolled diabetes,
  • Is pregnant or breast feeding,
  • Is prone to keloid scars or other abnormal wound healing.
  • Precautions must be taken if you are currently using prescription Retinoic Acid or had nurofen/aspirin in the last 48 hours.

Note Smoking reduces the body’s capacity to make collagen therefore healing may have some delayed results

Please advise your clinician if you have had any injectable fillers or Botox in that last 2 weeks.

Post Treatment Care

  • Avoid excessive exercise in the first 24 hours
  • Avoid scrubs and exfoliants and products containing AHAs BHAs and active ingredients first three to five days
  • Avoid cosmetic injectables for the first week
  • Avoid tanning and prolonged sun exposure for the first week
  • If you are prone to cold sores, consider taking natural supplements or antiviral medication as a preventative treatment
  • Makeup should not be worn for the next 24 hours post treatment.
  • Protective daily moisturiser SPF 30 is recommended

Follow up treatment

To achieve maximum results a minimum course of three-4 treatments every four-six weeks is recommended. Scarring may take 8 or more treatments.

Results accrue gradually because collagen production takes time. Most clients notice an improvement in their skin tone and texture within 6-8 weeks of each treatment.

The initially triggered new collagen will eventually be turned into a more permanent type of collagen over time. Substantial results take time and are dependent on home care use and your general health and lifestyle. Treatments are spaced at 4-6 weekly intervals

If you are concerned about any aspect of your treatment, or if you become unwell – contact our clinic immediately.
